Thought this was an interesting read....

Terminlogy

Let’s start off with some basic terminology:

Carebear: Ah yes, the carebear, the bane of the PVP Community, the thorn in the lions paw, the fluff in fluffy, the…ok well, a Carebear is someone who chooses to play on a PVP server, yet detests that which is PVP, killing other players mercilessly! The carebears often enjoy crafting, /emoting, and hanging out in the local IG pubs just to chat it up. Basically they are anti-PK on a PK Server, go figure that one out! The definition of carebear changes from game to game, but the consensus states their Anti-PK on PK servers.

PK: Short for player kill, self explaining I’d think but just in case! It’s a player whom kills other players. It is also a general term for a player whom is merciless against other players, who will kill them on sight, take their valuables from their lifeless corpse,

Griefer: Ah yes the beloved griefer, these are an interesting class of player! They get pleasure from causing displeasure to others. Their specialized in Trash Talk, Camping, and Newbie slaughtering. Their a definite interesting breed whose sole existence in game is to talk trash, kill lower level or under equipped players, basically they just want to “grief” you!

Camper: Self explanatory, a camper is someone who camps a location. This may be for profit or for griefing, such as camping lower level areas just to kill the newbies and lowbies! Campers may also camp valuable mobs/areas with valued resources for their own gain.

Etiquette

Now onto PVP Etiquette:

First off, no matter how fun, no matter HOW MUCH joy you may get from it, CAMPING low levels is not proper PVP etiquette! There is generally no real benefit to it other then self gratification.

Do not forget politics will be a large part in Age of Conan. The lowbies you kill today may become the guild leader in control of the battlekeep next to yours the next day! This can be a deciding factor on how long your guild holds onto that precious battlekeep when a large mercenary led force decides it would be a nice place to call home.

And finally onto a few final important factors in PVP in Age of Conan:

Politics: He who controls words controls the tide of battle, or, he who has gold <___<. The ability to maintain, make, and control alliances will be a deciding factor on who controls a battlekeep/tower, and how long they may control it. This opens up endless possibilities for war, destruction and chaos! Alliances on PVP servers have always been shaky; it only takes one person to cause an alliance to collapse. Politics in Age of Conan will be THE deciding factor in siege warfare. To call forth the manpower needed may be required from multiple guilds, mercenaries, and solo players. This will cost not only gold and other resources but a cunning politician or a council of them to forge alliances strong enough to maintain battlekeeps and towers.

Tactics: As recently stated, tactics will also be a huge part in siege warfare/PVP in general. We're not talking the old age tactic of “healer and melee” or simple combos, we're talking Roman-Empire style tactics, surround the healers and casters in a “square” of fighter classes. This also adds in the age old tactic of killing the healers and “elite” of the forces first, no matter the cost.

The defenders will have to decide whom of the attacking forces poses the greatest threat, and then distribute resources capable to destroy them, or in a sense turn order into chaos by destroying the organization of the opponent. The obvious initial targets may be the siege mounts, thus the initial goal may be the protection of them, or the destruction by the opponent. Same goes for healers, casters, and other valued high priority targets.

This also opens up new roles in Guilds never needed before in a MMO, Tactical officers, skilled in the required tactics in taking down other opponents/opponent defenses or attacks as well as which players/classes/units need extra protection to help them last the initial battles to turn the tides of war! It’s very well possible with superior tactics a group not even half of that of the opponent could come out victorious!
